Ruth Hamill answered on 9 Nov 2015:

I was interested in animal genetics, and I moved from working on wild species in my PhD and postdoc, to working with domestic species (genetics of meat quality in cattle and pigs) in a postdoc I did in Teagasc. I was lucky in that a permanent job came up in Teagasc in molecular biology at that time and I have been working in genetics of meat quality ever since and also more recently branching out to other interesting areas in food science!
