On a single experiment… At least 2 Months. I have to grow cells for a least 2-3 weeks, then I grow them on tiny little filters for 21 days. Then I can start the experiment. Then I can finally start the experiment! I see how much of my compounds get from one side of the cells to another, then afterwards I stain the cells to see that they are intact. If you look at my profile the picture with orange/red scales, that’s the cells with a fluorescent stain to show they are all connected 🙂
During my PhD I spent almost 2 years collecting data from over 500 children in schools across Ireland, on their dietary habits, and taking photos of their tongues, giving them things to taste and collecting DNA!
