My favourite fruit and vegetable have to be strawberry and broccoli respectively. The berries are rich in a group of compounds called polyphenols, which are natural antioxidants. The antioxidants are known to have protective role against a number of diseases such as diabetes, heart diseases and inflammation. Sadly, berries are seasonal fruits but their juices also pose the same functions. Broccoli, which is plenty in Ireland contains another group of bioactive molecules called glucosinolates. These glucosinolates have been well associated with anti-cancer functions.
