That’s a really great philosophical question. I’m curious as to everyones answer. In my opinion, I think science and education is important to ensure that as a society and global network we are making correct informed decisions. Cigarettes were created and because we didn’t have the scientific knowledge it became REALLY popular. But know we know the science and we can communicate that so people make better decisions for themselves .

It underpins the inventions and discoveries that make modern life, its the basis for medical breakthroughs. Its an expression of our nature to seek to understand and make sense of the world around us – science provides a robust process to answer the unanswered questions or at least give us an indication of whether a particular explanation for a phenomenon we observe is likely to be true. On that basis we can move forward and ask a better question next time.

I’ve had to really think about my answer to this question, as it isn’t something that I’ve ever really thought about myself.

Obviously not everyone will become a scientist but I think it’s incredibly important for all of us to have good understanding of all STEM subjects. As the guys have already said, science is really important for making informed decisions and provides us with the tools we need to decide if an explanation is likely to be true.

Science has also drastically improved our quality of life! Think of all the diseases that have been eradicated, medicines developed, and inventions invented. Without science, I wouldn’t be here typing out my answer on a computer and uploading to the internet!
