The Final Scientist of the Week is…

Today marks the last day of the Green Zone and the final time to announce the ‘Scientist of the Week’. This week’s winner is Louise McGrath, a PhD student at the Tyndall National Institute. Congratulations Louise! Thanks to all the students, scientists and teachers for taking part over the last 5 weeks. Next week we will be announcing the Student Winner of the Green Zone! What’s happened in the Green Zone?

Over the last 5 weeks, scientists and students across Ireland have been engaging online in I’m a Scientist, Stay at home.  During school closures, 191 students across Ireland have logged in from home to chat with 66 scientists. Students sent 127 Ask questions and had (almost) uncountable levels of conversation in 35 live chats. Together in the Green Zone, they’ve talked about a huge variety of topics, such as: the possible existence of Planet X why caterpillars are able to eat so much how black holes suck things in how life began how experiments can go wrong science ebook recommendations the role of scientists in the current coronavirus pandemic. You can watch an example live chat here to see what it’s like. Through a series of live chats and submitting their questions to ‘ASK’.
