      So a photograph is like a 2D picture of an object, whereas a hologram is a 3D picture of the same object. I think holograms are better because you can see it from lots of different angles (so it looks real) and it gives you more detail. There are different types of holograms, but for the ones I work with, we make the holograms in plastic films, which are similar to the films that normal photographs are made of.

      To make a hologram of an object, we shine laser light on the object which is then reflected onto one of the plastic films I mentioned above. The film stores the information about the object in a clever way, so that when we look at the film it looks as if we see the object in real life! This is what a hologram is.
