Question: Why is the ocean blue?

The ocean is blue because of the way it absorbs light from the Sun. We know that if you split up white light you get red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet, which is called the spectrum of colours. When light hits the ocean, the particles that make up the oceans absorb the colours at the red end of the spectrum, as well as the colours at the violet end of the spectrum. What we’re left with is mainly the blue-y colours in the middle, which is why the ocean looks blue!
