Pure water doesn’t have a taste because it’s just made of hydrogen and oxygen, each of which are tasteless. Drinking water, however, does have a taste and that can vary depending on the source of the water. The taste comes from the minerals which are dissolved in the water and those minerals depend on where the water comes from. Different types of rocks are all composed of different minerals and they dissolve into the water that flows over the surface of the rocks. Sometimes water can also taste different depending on what chemical treatments or additives are used during the purification process.
Bottled water companies usually sell their products on the basis of how their water tastes of “fresh mountain air with bunnies frolicking through the fields…” (or something along those lines) but usually I can’t taste the difference among different brands or tap water!
