Hi Saoirse,
I love studying the natural world and trying to figure out how and why animals have evolved to be the way they are. When I tell people that I study zoology their first reaction is usually “so you want to work in the zoo?”This is definitely an option but studying animals is about so much more than that as well. I did courses about parasites, the genes which determine how animals develop, conservation management and also how we can use computer models to understand how an epidemic like swine flu spreads or to predict the best ways to control a locust plague. My favourite course though was always evolution; it’s one of the most fundamental forces that govern the natural world and it can be used to explain pretty much anything and everything about animals. So my favourite thing is studying the story of evolution and using it as a framework for understanding the natural world.
Are you interested in studying animals?
Sive
I love discovering about animals and how they formed into humans after so many years and about when the first mammals formed I find it super interesting 🙂 I watched a programme once about the first ever animals and the big bang, it was very interesting 🙂
