Hey,
I love meeting with interesting people and learning about their work. Sometimes when you’re doing your own research you get stuck in a little bubble of studying very detailed aspects of a very tiny corner of science. I love getting out of this corner and learning about different research areas – whether they’re related to what I’m doing or something completely different. Sometimes you get great ideas for your own work and other times you just learn cool stuff!
And scientists can be very cool (and eccentric!) people to chat to 🙂

Hi Roy,
Favorite thing must be that feeling of when you get an idea, like in cartoons where a lightbulb above their heads goes bing! Its a great feeling to have an idea and then be able to test it out by experiments and find out if you were right or wrong. Even if I am wrong, it feels good to know and understand something better. I also love the travel and meeting people who work on different and interesting subjects. -

I love speaking about my work at conferences and getting other scientists question me about the work — it makes me feel part of a community! 🙂

it is my great pleasure to invite you to Hawaii to present at the International Conference on…
”all of these are what being a scientist is about, for me.
