• Question: why do we cry

      No kidding I asked the guys in my lab this question recently! Our theory (could be wrong) its that crying, or indeed laughing, are forms of communication. Like if you smile while talking to someone, they know how you are feeling and so they understand you better. When we cry, it may be a reaction that evolved so people around us will know we are in a delicate state and need protection or empathy.

      It’s a tricky one but I think Emma’s on the right track that crying is an important way of demonstrating your emotions to others. I guess it’s also a way to release a sudden burst of intense emotions whether they’re happy or sad – let it all out 🙂
