I don’t remember what the grades are these days in secondary but no I didn’t get an A1 in chemistry/biology/physics…you don’t need to know everything to be a scientist you just need to be willing to learn. A lot of people think of scientists as these geniuses but tbh I’d say they’re more like apprentices learning on the job. The common thread that binds scientists I imagine is a sort of passion like artists. I didn’t believe it until I saw it in action, people really are passionate and emotionally (aswell as intellectually) invested in their work.
I did get 1 A1 in biology, and I got an A2 in chemistry. I had to work hard to get those grades but it was definitely worth it! As Brian said you don’t need to know everything to be a scientist you just need to be willing to learn.
Science is all about hard work, determination, lots of coffee (not for me though yuck!!), and passion! If you’re willing to put in the work then you will get the results.
I did get an A1 in chemistry and an A2 in physics but I absolutely wouldn’t say they are necessary to do science or to be successful at it.
Lots of people in my course in college didn’t get A’s in science subjects but still turned out to be great when they started getting hands on experience doing experiments where you are thinking about and figuring out problems yourself 🙂
I studied over in the uk before uni – so we have different grades. But I got an A in physics and chemistry – but a B in biology!
But the first year of Uni basically covers this material again and makes sure everyone is at the same level – so my biology got a little better then (but only a little lol)
