This is due to the sun warming up the earths surface.. As it is warmed up the atmosphere is warmed too. Due to some places having more direct rays they atmosphere here is warmer. Warm air, which weighs less than cold air, rises. Then cool air moves in and replaces the rising warm air. This movement of air is what makes the wind blow.

It is really a matter of differences in the atmospheric pressure. The atmospheric pressure is the force of the air inside the atmosphere in a certain point. This could be also seen as the weight of the air in a certain point. Air moves from the high pressure zones to the low pressure zones. Main winds occur because changes in temperature between the poles and mid earth places (equator) and also because of the earth rotation.
