Microorganisms are tiny living things which can only be seen with the help of a microscope. They are all around us in the air, on our skin, in our mouths and in our guts (this is where I study them!). There are millions and millions of them in the world and they live everywhere.. in the hottest springs and the coldest tundras you will find some microorganisms. Bacteria, fungi and viruses are all types of microorganisms. Some of them can make us sick (such as the ones that give us food poisoning) but there are also lots of friendly microbes such as the ones that live in our guts and the ones we use to make cheese.

Little tiny bugs that live everywhere, even in and on us. In our hands, inside our body, on our clothes, in the air…we need them to live properly and they can also help us to make some food like bread, beer or wine.
Although some of them can be toxic for us.
