  There is enough food for eveybody in the world not to be hungry and not to die of hunger. Famines are very complicated to act. because it is not a matter of sending food but you need to help those countries to be able to survive by themselves. And this involves politics and in some countries the politicians are very corrupt you can almost do nothing.
  As scientist we can try to research ways of making it easier to have food: improving agriculture and farming.

  Unfortunately as Gonzalo has said this is not something we can prevent and it is a complicated issue. Some work is being done on trying to produce crops which can be grown quickly and in harsh environments so this could work in helping prevent famines.
