Antibiotics are used on animals to treat infections.. just like us! However sometimes antibiotics might be used at a low dose to try and prevent infection and also in some cases antibiotics are used to make animals grow quickly. However in Ireland the use of antibiotics in animals is well regulated and animals cannot be slaughtered unless they have been not taking antibiotics for about a month so that we are not eating them when we eat meat.

The same as you need an antibiotic when you have an infection. Animals can get sick and they can need antibiotics. Now farmers are trying to reduce the quantity they use so resistances to antibiotics stop being a problem
