This is partly to do with the way they eat as they contaminate large amounts of food because of all the germs they carry! When the eat they releases saliva and digestive juices over food and then eat it-this food may then be eaten by us and we would eat the bacteria they put on the food in their saliva!

They also carry bacteria on their many legs so if they land on food they can contaminate it that way also! Their bodies, including claws and padded feet, are covered with bristles. Its tongue is coated with sticky glue. A fly rubs its legs together to clean itself. In the process of rubbing its legs, it rubs off scraps of some of the material that has gathered on its bristles. That’s why we swot flies away from our food!
