Hi Peter, the left lung is slightly smaller because our heart is also located on the left side of our body. A slightly smaller left lung gives us room for the heart in our chest.

Hi Peter296! Simon said it perfectly, we need space for our heart!

      Hi Peter,
The left lung is a little smaller than the right lung because it shares space in the left side of the chest with the heart.

      Hi Peter

As answered already, the left lung is smaller than the right lung to allow room for our heart. Most of our bodies are fairly symmetrical. The reason the heart is slightly to the left is because blood gets pumped around the body from the left ventrical. This is the biggest chamber in the heart and is the reason the heart is slightly to the left in our bodies
