I’d wish for lots and lots of research funding to help me to answer all the questions I come up with when I’m doing research! It can be very frustrating as a scientist when our work is limited by the amount of money we have.

Amy Heather Fitzpatrick answered on 24 Apr 2020:
It is so hard to have just one wish! I hope that , especially politicians will take action the climate crisis. We have now seen worldwide that governments have the ability to make huge changes, as they did for covid-19. They need to take the same attitude for the climate crisis. So many of the issues we work on such as antimicrobial resistance (running out of antibiotics that work against bacteria/germs), new viruses and bacteria that makes us or plants and animal ill, these are all caused or increased because of the climate crisis. There is an idea called ‘One Health’, where health is seen as a healthy environment will produce healthy crops, that will feed and sustain healthy humans. In this one health circle, all parts, the environment, animal health and human health are needed and this is the attitude in science and in our lives that we need to adopt.

Universal kindness (very corny and a bit like “world peace” at an Oscar ceremony but it’s true…)
If we all treat each other kindly and use empathy in our decision making, a lot of big problems start to get smaller and easier to work on collectively

If I had one wish for the world it would be to treat each other more kindly. We are all human beings, with our own struggles and difficulties in life so I would love for people to be nicer to one another and the world would be a much more lovely place to be in.

right now I wish our amazing scientists and engineers can design and create a vaccine to protect us all from covid19. After that I wish we all come together to save our beautiful planet.
-
Ciara O'Donovan answered on 27 Apr 2020:
This is hard to answer as right now it would probably be that some answers could be solved to help the current COVID-19 crisis but that is a little short sighted. A bit broader, maybe that equal opportunities could be afforded to all individuals.

At this precise moment in time, I really wish we could eradicate the coronavirus that’s impacting us all so much, but in a more longterm sense, I really wish that people (especially those in power) would take on board warnings that come from experts and act accordingly, for example in areas like climate change, vaccination, etc.

Chloe Matthews answered on 27 Apr 2020:
My one wish for the world would be for everyone to start helping the planet more. If we all work together we can help the planet heal. If we stop using single use plastics (think straws and plastic bags), if we car pool or use public transport, recycle properly and not drop our trash in streets we can get closer and closer to cleaning the planet. Even wearing your older siblings clothes if they fit you can help as making clothes is really bad for the planet.

Hmm, I wish that all of humanity had a greater appreciation for our environment and how important it is…..the climate crisis is the biggest global issue we face (except for coronavirus right now). As a sneaky second wish I would also love to see more women in science!

Right now, I wish I could see my family soon. My mom and my brother were supposed to visit me over the summer but due to COVID-19, our plans have changed. I am hopeful that I will see them sooner rather than later!
