I was crazy about dinosaurs and wanted to be a paleontologist when I was a kid! When I got to secondary school, I realized I was really interested in biology and chemistry and that lead me into a career in science.

An astronaut- 100%! As I got older though, I stopped looking up so much and started looking around and decided to be an Environmental Scientist instead.

I wanted to be an Engineer as I loved building things. As I grew older I studied Social Sciences with Computer Science, later I switched to Pure Sciences now I’m doing Computer Science with the human touch which is very rewarding.

I thought about lots of different things including being a journalist, historian or vet. I was always interested in lots of different things and loved different bits of science so eventually I decided to study science at university and the became really interested in plants and rocks.

I never had a clear choice, as every day I wanted to be something different: architect, medical doctor, firefighter and engineer. However, during school I started to become very interested in the science and math classes so I finally decided to become a biomedical engineer.

I actually didn’t have any idea of what I wanted to be until I was about 21. I didn’t really know anything about palaeontology as a kid – and now I am a palaeontologist! So I’m glad I didn’t decide on anything too early 🙂

Hi impendingdoom! I really wanted to be a stuntdriver or a rally car driver! I have driven a formula 2 car, so I got to experience it, but I preferred science in the end, so I became a scientist!

Before I had a computer I was thinking to become an architect. I was good at drawing (probably not that much anymore 😀 ) and in math. When I got a computer it was clear to me I wanted to become a computer scientist 🙂

Hi impendingdoom! (Nice name, by the way :P) I wanted to be a teacher for a while, or then an author. But then I realised that I was a bit better at science and maths instead of English, and that I prefer reading books anyway instead of writing them…

I wanted to be a teacher. What I really wanted was to be a role model like the role models I looked up to. Then as a teenager I wanted to be a rally car driver.. that still lives in me. I had a trip planned to go to Silverstone in England this weekend to drive a number of supercars but it had to be postponed! Soon I will race!

I wanted to be a Scientist since I was a kid. I loved doing experiments when I was in school. There was this one time when I tested the presence of Chlorophyll( plants make food using chlorophyll) in a leaf using a candle, a bowl and some household things. I loved to see the magic happen and now I am trying to create the magic for all of you.

I’ve brother that’s 12 years older than me. He used to work driving a tractor (drawing in silage) during the summers from when he was 16. He used to bring me in the tractor sometimes and when I got a bit older he used to give me a go at driving some machines
Without question my number 1 career aspiration as a child was to draw in silage. The same brother was working as a builder by the time I was old enough to do that work, so I spent my summers on building sites instead of on tractors

I wanted to be an artist. I love drawing and I always heard people say you should have a job that you love. As I got older I started to look at other jobs (you can always explore other options before deciding on something!). I also love languages and thought maybe I could be a teacher. When I was 16 I started learning about chemistry in school and I loved it. I found that I could have a job designing drugs, which suited my artistic side. So in many ways I still get to be an artist- just a science artist instead of a animation one!

I wanted to be a veterinarian. I was obsessed with animals when I was young, and I loved TV shows like Animal Hospital and presenters like David Attenborough and Steve Irwin. It was all I wanted to do for pretty much my whole school life, in 4th year in secondary school I even did some work experience with my dog’s vet. I decided not to study it in college though. I had started to become more interested in biology and genetics, plus I thought there would be more options for me with a science degree. I’ve never regretted the decision to turn down studying veterinary medicine though. I can have my own pets and be around animals in future, I just won’t be operating on them!

I knew I wanted to be a scientist, but I flip flopped about what I wanted to specialise in: for a while I wanted to be a computer scientist, then I thought about doing astrophysics, but eventually I decided I liked chemistry best and I stuck with that, and I’m very happy with it. Not sure I would have been cut out for computer science or astrophysics!

When I was a kid, I changed my mind about my dream job quite often! As a four year old, I wanted to be either a spaceman or a superhero, but I grew out of that. Then around 5 or 6 I learned that I loved reading and writing so obviously I was going to write books. As I got to learn more science in my classes, I began to love biology and problem solving which pushed me towards studying science! And now, I basically have a dream job where I study a topic that I’m interested in and get to discover new things. I may not be a spaceman but what I am doing now feels out of this world!

I used to change my mind all the time. At one point I wanted to be an interior designer, then a gardener and even an actor! But the more I became interested in nature the more I realised the magic of science….I even used to make ‘potions’ in my garden using plants and flowers! Mad stuff.

I wanted to be an archaeologist, but at school I realized that learning math much easier than history. This brought me to engineering but I have always enjoyed antiques, love museums, and try to refurbish old pieces at home. So there’s always a way to keep the initial childhood plans 🙂
